The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Ekiti state, Kayode Fayemi, has concluded plans to set up cattle colonies in some local council areas in the state.

The Guardian reports that the state publicity secretary of the party, Jackson Adebayo, in a statement claimed Fayemi disclosed his alleged plan in a telephone interview with an Abuja-based radio station on Monday, June 25.

The PDP spokesperson alleged that some parts of the state mapped out for the colonies include: Orin-Ora, Aramoko, Omuo, Otun, Ise and Erifun, in Ado-Ekiti.

Adebayo warned that the alleged plan by Fayemi should be stopped to avoid opening the state to herdsmen invasion.

He said: “States having issues with Fulani herdsmen can only solve the problems permanently by giving land to the herdsmen, where they could even have an Emir.

That is why I have maintained that I will create cattle colonies in Ekiti State, if I become governor. It is better to give your land to Fulani herdsmen and live, than for them to kill you as they did in Plateau State yesterday,” he allegedly declared.

“It was strange that Fayemi did not condemn herdsmen’s killings in Oke Ako, Orin, Okemesi, Aiyede, Ipao and other places in Ekiti state.”

However, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has described the allegations against Fayemi as false. The spokesperson for the Kayode Fayemi campaign organisation, Wole Olujobi, said the false claim was a repeat of an online statement traced to Governor Fayose’s media aides.

He said “The false story of Fayemi talking about creating cattle colonies in Ekiti State was first published online about a month ago.

“It was discovered to have been orchestrated by Fayose’s media aides, who published it on a cloned website of an online publication.”

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday, June 25, decried how desperate politicians have increasingly cheapened human life in their quest to establish a reign of instability and chaos in the country for political gains.

President Buhari, who was reacting to recent clashes in Plateau, which left scores dead, said in a statement by his senior special assistant on media and publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, in Abuja, that those behind the killings hoped that it would give them an advantage in the coming elections.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the presidency quoted security information which indicated that about one hundred cattle were rustled by a community in Plateau state, and some herdsmen were killed in the process.
