Russia who are the host of the 2018 FIFA World Cup have qualified for the round of 16 of the championship after beating the Pharaohs of Egypt 3-1 in the second Group A game.

Egypt welcomed Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah to their squad after missing the first game against Uruguay, but he could not save his country from an embarrassing defeat against Russia.

This defeat for Egypt means that they are on the verge of crashing out of the 2018 World Cup, and their only hope is if Saudi Arabia beat Uruguay in the second Group A game.

Russia took the lead in this match in the 47th minute when Egyptian defender Ahmed Fathi scored against his own goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawi.

Denis Cheryshev scored the second goal for Russia in the 59th minute, and three minutes later, Artem Dzyuba scored the third goal in the 62nd minute.

Mohamed Salah scored for Egypt in the 73rd minute via a penalty when he was pulled down by Roman Zobnin, but his goal could not save his country from a defeat as the match ended 3-1 in favor of Russia.

Earlier, NAIJ.com had reported how Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah has declared himself fit for Egypt’s game against Russia at the 2018 FIFA World Cup championship.

Mohamed Salah was on the bench for Egypt’s opening game against Uruguay and the Pharaohs were beaten after conceding a goal at the death.

Many football fans believed Mohamed Salah would have helped Egypt in their first game, but coach Hector Cuper did not want to take a risk as he just recuperated from shoulder injury.
